My Fox HOUSTON - John Ned, president and founder of, has developed a mobile marketing strategy designed to level the playing field for small businesses.

In a consumer market where more and more people are using mobile devices to access information and make online purchasing decisions, Ned believes his mobile apps are essential tools for small business owners.

"A mobile app gives a small business many abilities like setting up proximity marketing areas. Imagine a customer driving home from work and they receive an alert on their cell phone from their favorite restaurant as they come within a 2-mile radius, that they can get "2-for-1 appetizers" for the next hour," said the Houston business owner.

However, with an average cost of $8,000 to $10,000 to develop a mobile app, many small businesses have been priced out of this growing market.

"Historically small business couldn't afford to have a mobile app built specifically for their business, but now we have created customized small business mobile apps that are affordable," said Ned, a mobile app developer.

Ned launched iBuildBizApp in January of this year, providing native apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android devices and mobile websites along with user-friendly content management systems.

His software applications use a platform that allows each mobile app to be customized and sold at price points that small businesses can afford.

"We provide a complete mobile marketing strategy for small business for less than the price of a newspaper ad," said Ned.

With 1 billion smart phones projected to be sold in 2015, according to data from University of Alabama at Birmingham Online Masters in Management Information Systems, the Houston businessman hopes his customized mobile apps and mobile websites will usher in a new wave of opportunity and growth for the small business owner.

The survey also indicates that revenue for apps is expected to grow from the current $11.4 billion to $24.5 billion by 2016, a 400 percent increase.

The projections point to significant growth opportunities for small businesses which make up 99.7 percent of U.S. employer firms, according to the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy.

"My goal is to help small business owners leverage technology by positioning them to capitalize on mobile technology in an app-driven world," said Ned.

According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, 70 percent of homeless veterans suffer from substance abuse, while 50 percent experience mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, with many ending up living on the streets.

In addition to making a difference in the lives of the nation's veterans, the companies also are joining forces to combat hunger in the estimated 16 million children who experience hunger in the nation each day.
